I've been a designer and a builder for as long as I can remember. It started with running Minecraft servers as a kid, teaching myself infrastructure, code, and how to make something people actually wanted to use, years before I had the words for it. I studied both: a master's in Interaction Design and a Design Systems certificate.
My career has led with design, on products used by millions across Flanders. At KBC I design conversations for Kate, their digital assistant. On my first stint I designed 186 of them, and I was part of the core team that brought the first LLM experiments into what was then a fully rule-based chatbot. I gave a talk at UX Beers about that transition. In between, a year at VRT MAX, where I redesigned the player around chapters and highlights and set up an accessibility research framework.
I never put the technical side down. Under Valderas, which began as a side hustle and is now where I do my most complete work, I design and build the whole thing. For Nitra I built a training-management system and own their Zoho One platform, and I am rebuilding their academy in code as they outgrow low-code. I use AI to move fast from an idea to a working prototype, and I ship the small products that earn it.
None of this is a pivot; it is the whole of what I have always done. Because I design and build, the hand-off between designed and shipped is a choice, not a tax.
